A World of Color
So pleased to have A Beach Tail recommended for summer reading by Stories of a Colorful World on Brown Boy Bookshelf. With gratitude for a mother who taught me to embrace a world of color. She gave me the gift of literature and story telling. (She also loved the beach). And special thanks to Floyd Cooper whose illustrations expanded the text and made this [...]
Young People Give Me Hope
See what one teen and her friends are doing during these difficult times. In April, in light of the Coronavirus, I set up a volunteer tutoring program enlisting some of my fellow Sidwell Friends students. In other words, some of my friends and I tutored students virtually (via Zoom), for free. We tutor in all subjects ranging from math to Mandarin. We plan on continuing this program in the upcoming school year. See the website here: http://myteentutor.com/ An honor to have this reading of Galimoto on the website. A beautiful job! https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=XxVpbEfWmr4 Check it out!

World Refugee Day 2020: June 20

It is our deepest belief that these vulnerable individuals should be protected, embraced, and empowered in a world of just and welcoming communities. Join us this week in celebrating the incredible resilience and contributions of refugees in America – and remembering those overseas who look to us for protection. In the [...]
A Beach Tail Fan Mail for this Summer Read.
Here's what the parent of one young fan has to say: Most recent favorite book. We’ve been making sand castles and writing G.R-E-G at the beach. Theora regularly asks to read ‘Gregory’. Floyd Cooper's illustrations added much to this book. You can feel the sand! See the Kirkus review: Children will relate to this adventure, which pivots on the moment he realizes he has lost sight of his dad. But a winning combination of good memory and self-reliance lead to a most satisfactory ending. Scoop up this tale for its strength as a unique beach [...]
Interview in the Park
Yes! Even during a pandemic, even in masks. Two weeks ago a bright spot for me. Pittsburgh school librarian, Carlton Heywood, one of my favorite fans interviewed me about one of his favorite books, Galimoto, and about my writing. In one of my favorite places. Frick Park. Good things can happen in difficult times. Stay safe and well everyone.
