Some of you will remember when all I had to worry(rant?) about on Thanksgiving was the fact that the turkey I bought did not have a pop-up timer.  I wrote about it here.

Turns out it is still all about the timing.  Let’s start with the date.  One thing and another has those of us who could make it being thankful together on Friday this year instead of Thursday.

Long weekend.  Who knows what day it is anyway?

It all still comes down to what time to put the poultry into the oven.

Husband has to work so what time will he get home?  Not sure?  Well OK.

My 92 mother has begun sundowning late afternoon. So. There is a window of time before life gets…interesting.   When will that be?  No one knows.  So never mind.

Grandson needs a nap, when will he be cranky… or crankier?  Does a two year old care if the turkey is too dry, potatoes lumpy?

You have a family, do the math, there is no reasonable time to have dinner with four generations at the table.

But there is still the guest of honor to consider.  How many pounds? Defrost how?  Roast when?

Well that depends on all of the above.  Do the math. Again…

Which brings me back to that pop-up timer.  I haven’t checked to see if there is one in the turkey I am pampering like an infant.

I can’t find the roasting thermometer.

I plan to wing it(yes I know).

And be thankful  we are together.  Thankful  that my concerns boil down to a few rants about a bird we eat once a year.  Thankful for the chaos …

Those of you who could not make it this year?  …can be thankful   😉
